The Delta Hotel in downtown Kitchener will soon become a Crowne Plaza.
A multi‐million‐dollar renovation has just begun at the large hotel on King Street East.
“We felt it was only appropriate to position this hotel as an iconic brand,” says Amin Visram of Vista Hospitality Group, which purchased the former Four Points Sheraton and Valhalla Inn last December.
Downtown Kitchener BIA executive director Shannon Weber says the renovated hotel, conference room and restaurant will add jobs and attract tourism to the downtown core.
“We know that as development of our innovation district and other areas expands, having properties like this in downtown will be important,” Weber says.
Nancy Williams, who manages a nearby clothing store, says she’s glad to see the southern end of downtown get a bit of the redevelopment that has changed the fortunes of the area a few blocks north.
She’s also glad to see the hotel for business reasons.
“We actually get a lot of clientele from the hotels,” she says.
Visram says his company is in talks with high‐quality retailers who have expressed interest in setting up shop near King and Benton.
All of the hotel’s 201 suites will be included in the renovation, which is scheduled to wrap up by this fall.
